Sardinia in a Nutshell
The Sardinian capital, Cagliari has a historic old town, busy port and one of the island’s best beaches. The sweeping stretch of sand at Poetto offers great summer nightlife, and just inland is Molentargius lagoon, where flamingos nest against the backdrop of the city.
Cagliari is spread over a small hill and the oldest part – Quartiere Castello – lies at the top. There are far-reaching views from Bastion San Remy, its main entrance point. Medieval city walls lead from here to the simple cathedral, and nearby is the 18th-century Palazzo Regio.
By one of the original city gates is the National Archaeological Museum, housing a collection of Phoenician and Roman artefacts from the city’s Tuvixeddu Necropolis. There are also displays of the nuraghic civilisation whose former dwellings pepper Sardinia. The most impressive is Su Nuraxi north of Cagliari.
Just outside the walls are remains of a Roman amphitheatre, next to the university botanical gardens. Orange tree-lined streets descend the hill towards the seafront where restaurants and bars can be found. Cagliari FC play at Sant’Elia Stadium along the coast and opposite is the Sardinia International Fair, an important conference venue.

I liked the antiquity and history. We also visited the Museum of Archeology, a definite must. The sights in Cagliari, the narrow streets and the little train that one can ride for a minimal fee. The shop, cafe and restaurant servers were all gracious and nice, very friendly.

Weather was not nice, so we cannot really use the beaches or go the mountain (to much windy), but center and close surroundings of Cagliari are nice, wonderful views, walking in small streets. We recommend to take bus Nr.7, which is circular line. How the driver is driving thru small streets - respect. In any case is better for stay in the city to use buses - it'smore practical and ecological, cheap and good service, parking is anyway difficult.

Loads of walking up.and down hills and stairs. Easy to get around and all nearby. Loved the narrow streets and Marina. Great cycling tour of the city to Poetta beach. The Botanical Gardens were fantastic - well worth the visit. The public civic gardens were lovely and so well maintained by the hard working crew. Also the art gallery at the end of it was small but beautiful.

A wonderful old world city oozing with charm. Very walkable, but hilly, with many sights and attractions with easy access. Good bus system and reasonable taxis. A large selection of restaurants, shops and supermarkets for every want or need. An excellent base for exploring Sardinia.

A truly Mediterranean city, warm and full of life and positive vibes. It's history and culture deserve much more respect than it actually receives. Some spots are neglected (particularly Bastione San Remi), the roads are not in the best shape and overall there is a sense of neglect. Luckily the locals with their helpful attitude make up for the minuses which most probably are created by the local authorities.

The location is a 5 minute walk from the train station which makes it easy to get to when flying into Cagliari. Loredana was the sweetest woman and the perfect host with her fast communication and answering any questions we had. There is also a bus stop at the bottom of the street which makes it easy to head to Poetto beach. We would recommend Sardinia Gem House to anyone who was wanting to visit Cagliari.

The staff were very helpful - taxis are not readily available in Sardinia as in other places and they sent one to pick me up when I arrived and ordered one for me when I left. The check-in is fast, easy and convenient. The room was very clean, comfy and well located. You can walk to the historic center, the castello and other points of interest. The host is helpful and communicates clearly all the information you need. We didn't take the breakfast as we left early in the morning, but we appreciated the water fountain. I strongly recommend.

We were celebrating a special occasion and they went out of their way to make sure we felt special! To enter, call the manager and he comes to check you in. He eagerly provides maps, gives tourist information and even books a taxi to the airport. The guesthouse is close to main attractions, perhaps 5 minutes from the waterfront and the old town. It was less expensive than nearby hotels while cosy and very comfortable. Breakfast with vouchers at a nearby café.

Food, the room upgrade, the wonderful chambermaids and waitresses that work so hard and always engaging. It is near Cagliari, Spiaggia di Poetto is an 8km silver sand beach, raked daily, and delightful beach restaurants. It has an excellent quite beach road promenade that can be used for exercise it is regularly patrolled by police.

We had a lovely, rather sweet, breakfast with delicious coffee and access to a little fridge, which appeared to be a necessity in the Sardinian heat!
